(Boombox's hall of famer, Co Gougeon)
This weekend I had the chance to shred my old stompin' grounds, Kamiskotia Ski Resort. I've been heading there for as long as I can remember, first as a skier (age: 6) and now as a snowboarder (age: 25). To think it's been almost 13 years since I took that fateful first shred with my boy Co Gougeon during the March Break of '98. If anyone asks me where I got my start, whether it be wake, snow, surf, or skate I always think back to that day when I was initiated to a whole new world (face plant, first trick, first try!). From there it simply progressed to skate, then wake, and then surfing (a.k.a. the grand slam). It was like the planting of a seed I guess one could say; a seed that has blossomed into a beautiful life that is nourished by the need to be on a board at all times, one way or another...k, what?
I mean, could I really trace back my entire collective boarding experiences to this one place, and one time? hmmm probably not. However, it would be hard to imagine how things would have worked themselves out in the absence of a place like Kamiskotia. All this to say that my hometown of Timmins, ON is pretty lucky to have a facility that exists where kids can go, dream big, develop their talent (i.e. Craig Beaulieu), and have some fun that no app could ever replicate. So without getting too much on that sentimental tip now, I guess what I'm trying to say is, well more or less: "Get out! Get stoked!" and...most of all stay stoked.
*(Thanks Kamiskotia)
